MANNY Pacquiao’s long time adviser Mike Koncz said that Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero is not the PacMan’s next opponent though the American expressed willingness to take on the Filipino ring icon.
“It’s just a media hype and we don’t care. Guerrero is not in our list as Manny’s next opponent,” Koncz told The Manila Times in a phone interview on Tuesday. “Everybody is waiting about Pacquiao’s next opponent and I think Top Rank will have the short list before the Christmas Eve.”
Guerrero, 30, holds a 31-2-1 win-loss-draw record with 18 knockouts.
“There are fighters available and we’re not limiting our choices to Bradley or Marquez though,” Koncz added.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) recently ranked Pacquiao No. 1 contender for American Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s welterweight title. Guerrero, who was beaten by Mayweather via unanimous decision in May, is rated No. 8 by the WBC. He is under Oscar Dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotion.
Koncz opined that Guerrero is not at par with Pacquiao’s skills hence he is not in the list of Pacquiao’s next opponents that includes unbeaten American Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Russian Ruslan Provodnikov.
