TWO Koreans and three Filipinos were arrested as government authorities busted a Korean-led mail-order bride syndicate during an operation in Dasmariñas, Cavite province on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Reports at the PNP operations center in Camp Crame identified the arrested Koreans as Kim Yook Seok, a retired South Korean soldier and Soo Chae Kim, an engineer and both residing at Charbell Village, Dasmarinas.
Police arrested the three Filipino cohorts identified as Edgardo Salazar of Bicutan, Taguig City; Sherwin Belar and Imelda Fabella, both from Angela Village II, Bacoor, Cavite.
Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (Paocc) Executive Director, Chief Supt.
Reginald Villasanta, said that aside from the arrest of the suspects, the operations also led to the rescue of 29 Filipinas being recruited by the group as brides for Koreans.
“They (Filipinas) were duped into promises of an instant wealthy life thru marriage with Korean gentlemen although in most cases, they ended up in the losing end after becoming victims of grave abuses,” Villasanta said.
