Korean student cleared of MERS-Cov


BACOLOD CITY: Korean student in Bacolod is cleared of an illness caused by the Middle East Respira-tory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERSCoV).

Dr. Marlon Tabligan, acting chief of the Medical Professional Staff, said the 22-year-old male Korean who was placed under observation at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) tested negative of MERSCoV and only had tonsillitis.

The swab sample taken from the patient was found negative of the virus according to the results of a laboratory test conducted by the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM).

The patient will be discharged anytime, said Dr. Joan E. Cerrada, chairperson of the Infection Control Committee.

The Korean national arrived in Bacolod last June 26, and had a check-up at Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memori-al Hospital (also known as Riverside Medical Center) on June 30 after he had fever and flu. He was then referred to the CLMMRH, a hospital under the Department of Health (DOH).

The doctors of CLMMRH assured Bacolod City residents that the city is free from MERSCoV.
