Ask around about young actress Kris Bernal and the reply will surely be a star with a girl-next-door charm. Indeed, the pretty face has perfected the formula for taking on sweet, perky, and teenybopper-ish roles in her past projects.
But as she continues to bloom in the public eye, so does her talent for the camera. Today, she dares to breathe life into more mature roles and leave behind her sweetheart image.
Kris’ introduction to the entertainment industry came years ago when she joined the reality talent search StarStruck. Her first feat happened when she was hailed the Ultimate Female Survivor. Since then, Kris has become a small screen favorite, appearing in a string of drama series, endorsements, and variety shows.
The StarStruck alum paid her dues playing bit yet significant parts in Boys Nxt Door, Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan, Dyesebel and Luna Mystika.
She earned her first starring role in the hit afternoon soap Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin, a remake of a 1984 film top billed by Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion. Besides having the honor of reviving a memorable character, Kris found a wider audience from the show’s success.
After being cast in several more top-rating programs, Kris was pegged as a Korean-Filipino in Koreana. She played an aspiring chef in search of her biological family and cultural roots. To ensure the authenticity of her portrayal, the hardworking actress underwent language training as well as took short Korean cuisine courses.
Proving the she could also move to the beat, Kris starred in Time of My Life, a dance series that showcased her talent for both dance and drama.
It was in the Philippine adaptation of the popular Korean series Coffee Prince where Kris received a total makeover as she portrayed the role of a lady disguised as a man. The show proved her versatility, which steeled her presence in GMA Network’s prime time lineup season after season.
She is grateful that her latest project for her mother studio is one that fully satisfies her creative hunger. The primetime drama series Hiram na Alaala will prove to be a departure from her pre- vious performances.
“Hiram na Alaala is about the power of shared memories. ‘Di ba, kapag malayo tayo sa mga mahal natin sa buhay, it’s our memories of them we hold onto. At doon natin nararamdaman ang pagmamahal,” Kris introduced her new show at a press conference on Thursday night.

Somehow she believes that another man who claims to be Joseph is the man she loves, and despite suppressing her feelings for him finds her memories come alive with him
Under the helm of the highly acclaimed director of Temptation of Wife and My Husband’s Lover, Dominic Zapata guides the young actress in a role she has always wanted.
