De La Salle University will be seeking for a crucial win when it face twice-to-beat holder Far Eastern University (FEU) today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Green Archers and the Tamaraws will collide in the second game at 4 p.m. after the 2 p.m. non-bearing game between the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors and the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons.
La Salle, now No.5 with a 6-7 win-loss record, needs to win against the Tamaraws to tie reigning champion National University (NU) and force a playoff battle for the last seat in the Final Four. NU beat FEU 70-68 last week improving its win-loss record to 7-7 and claiming it the No. 4 spot.
The Green Archers of coach Juno Sauler are expected to lean on Jeron Teng, rookie Andrei Caracut, Thomas Torres, Jason Perkins, Paolo Rivero, Julian Sargent and Larry Muyang in challenging the Tamaraws.
But FEU, now occupying the No. 2 spot and armed with the second twice-to-beat bonus in the Final Four, are all geared up for battle.
“Our objective is to win the game and we are still going to use the same game plan,” said FEU coach Nash Racela during an interview. “I think we just have to do our best against La Salle. I remind the players to focus on this game.”
FEU is expected to bank on Mike Tolomia, Mac Belo, Archie Inigo, Al Francis Tamsi, Russel Escoto, Roger Pogoy, Prince Orizu and Reymar Jose, in repelling La Salle.
