Former champion De La Salle University bucked a shaky start to turn back National University (NU), 25-22, 25-12, 25-15, on Wednesday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Spikers, who defeated Adamson University in their first game, notched their second straight win while the Lady Bulldogs fell to a 0-2 card.
Season 76 Most Valuable Player Ara Galang led La Salle with 15 points highlighted by her nine attacks and five aces while sophomore Kim Dy contributed 10 points. Playmaker Kim Fajardo had 25 excellent sets and four aces.
Six-foot-five Jaja Santiago scored 10 points for NU as former Best Spiker Myla Pablo was limited to just seven points.
In the men’s division, defending titlist NU toppled Far Eastern University (FEU), 25-17, 25-23, 18-25, 25-13, to take the lead with a clean 2-0 mark.
Skipper Rueben Inaudito delivered 14 points and Fauzi Ismail added 12 markers for the Bulldogs.
The Tamaraws got 16 points from Greg Dolor but it wasn’t good enough as FEU absorbed its second loss in as many games.
Adamson University, on the other hand, stunned last year’s runner-up Ateneo de Manila University, 20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-15. EMIL C. NOGUERA
