Former titlist De La Salle University guns for its seventh win when it tackles Far Eastern University (FEU) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s volleyball today at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The La Salle-FEU match is at 4 p.m. after the University of the Philippines-University of the East game at 2 p.m.
La Salle aims to regain the momentum after absorbing a heartbreaking 22-25, 27-25, 25-16, 14-25, 9-15 loss to defending champion Ateneo de Manila University.
The Lady Spikers fell into a solo second with a 6-1 card while the Lady Eagles stayed on top with a clean 7-0 mark. Idle National University is in third (4-3).
“It’s [loss to Ateneo]a good learning experience for us and we’re hoping to correct all our mistakes in our next games especially our defense. They [Ateneo] had a lot of attacks in that game,” said La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus, who steered the Lady Spikers to eight titles.
La Salle will rely on skipper Ara Galang, the league’s third best scorer, as well as Mika Reyes, Cydthealee Demecillo, Desiree Cheng and playmaker Kim Fajardo.
The Lady Tamaraws, on the other hand, also want to bounce back from a 25-21, 25-27, 16-25, 23-25 defeat to University of Santo Tomas the last time out. They are currently in a three-way tie for fourth with UP, and Adamson University with 3-4 apiece.
Power-hitting Bernadeth Pons and Toni Rose Basas are expected to lead FEU’s offense along with middle spikers Geneveve Casugod and Remy Palma.
