De La Salle University posted a sweet 25-11, 25-13, 25-17 victory over University of Santo Tomas (UST) to gain a piece of the lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.
La Salle improved to 7-2 and joined defending champion Ateneo de Manila University (7-2) on top. UST dropped to 4-5.
University of the Philippines (UP), meanwhile, repulsed Adamson University, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, to continue its winning streak in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Maroons banked on Diana Carlos, who posted 13 markers, while team captain Katherine Bersola had eight hits, one block and two aces, and Isabel Molde and Marian Buitre combined for 17 points.
“We were warning them the whole week about satisfaction and complacency na dapat iwasan. Hindi ko alam kung external factors o sa bata nanggaling and we hope getting through that stage,” UP head coach Jerry Yee.
UP improved to 6-3 to strengthen its hold of the third spot.
“Credits to them pa rin na nakakabawi at nakakahabol,” added Yee.
May Roque scored 11 hits for Adamson while Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza both contributed 10 apiece.
The Lady Falcons continued to struggle and fell to 3-6.
In the men’s division, University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle University trounced their respective fancied foes.
UST stunned Adamson, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23, while La Salle blasted Far Eastern University, 26-24, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21.
Manuel Madina helped UST with 15 points including 13 hits while Jason Sarabia registered 13 markers.
Raymark Woo delivered 22 points on 18 kills and three aces for La Salle.
