After clinching the title of the 2016 FilOil Flying V Pre-season Premier Cup, De La Salle University head coach Aldin Ayo bared that they are planning to hold training matches against professional ball clubs.
According to Ayo, they are arranging tune-up games against squads from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as part of their buildup for the upcoming University
Athletic Association of the Philippines season.
“We are arranging tune-up games against teams under the San Miguel Corporation in the PBA so it will be either San Miguel, Star or Ginebra,” Ayo said in Filipino during an interview.
“I’ve talked to my bosses also because we want to experience playing with the likes of Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle in our run-and-gun plays,” he added.
La Salle went undefeated in the collegiate pre-season caging tournament with 10 straight wins including their 86-74 victory over Arellano University in the championship game with rookie big man Ben Mbala leading the charge with 28 points, 26 rebounds and eight blocks.
Ayo reiterated that defense will still be the main focus in their training.
“Well, we still have to improve our defense. There are still a lot of gaps in our defense that we have to cover but during our meeting with Arellano, I’m sure the boys learned a lot,” he said.
“Every time you are being challenge, you learn from it. The guys learned a lot during the finals especially in crunch time because there you are only supposed to think about the outcome of the game,” he concluded.
