De La Salle University grabbed the solo second after blasting Adamson University, 25-13, 25-13, 25-16, on Saturday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Former Most Valuable Player Ara Galang led the balance attack of the Lady Spikers as she scored 10 points while Mary Joy Baron and Kim Fajardo contributed nine markers.
Mika Reyes, May Luna and Carol Cerveza chipped in eight points each.
La Salle improved to 3-1 behind defending champion Ateneo de Manila University which holds a clean 3-0 card.
No Adamson player scored in double digits as usual scorers Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza were limited to a combined nine-point output.
The Lady Falcons fell to 1-2.
In the men’s side, University of the Philippines stunned National University, 25-19, 25-20, 31-29, to claim its second win in three games.
Wendel Miguel nailed 20 points on 17 kills and three blocks while Nico Consuelo added 12 points for the Fighting Maroons.
James Natividad led the Bulldogs with 15 points.
NU suffered its first defeat to drop to 2-1.
University of Santo Tomas (UST), meanwhile, posted its first win following a 25-21, 26-24, 25-18 victory over University of the East.
Rookie Manuel Andrei Medina scored 16 points, including five service aces, and Tyrone Carodan added 12 points to lead the Growling Tigers. Jason Sarabia contributed seven points also for UST.
The Red Warriors suffered their fourth straight defeat.
