La Salle, NU fight for solo lead in UAAP women’s volley

Defending champion De La Salle University and National University (NU) will be disputing the solo lead today in the women’s division of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The La Salle-NU match is scheduled at 4 p.m. after the tussle between University of the Philippines (UP) and Far Eastern University at 2 p.m. Playing in the men’s division are Ateneo de Manila University and UP at 8:30 a.m., and NU and Adamson University at 10 a.m.

The Lady Archers and the Lady Bulldogs are sharing the top spot with 2-0 each. La Salle defeated Adamson, 25-14, 25-22, 25-19, and University of Santo Tomas , 25-8, 27-25, 25-13.

Last year’s co-Most Valuable Players Abigail Marano and Ara Galang as well as Mika Reyes and Cydthealee Demecillo are expected to provide the needed points for the Lady Archers.


NU, for its part, is also coming off a pair of impressive victories. The Lady Bulldogs walloped Ateneo, 25-17, 25-22, 25-17, and University of the East, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22.

The towering Santiago sisters – Dindin and Jaja – will be leading NU’s attack line along with last year’s Best Spiker Myla Pablo, Aiko Urdas and Carmina Aganon.

The 6-foot-2 Dindin and 6-foot-5 Jaja are currently the leading spikers in the league with 60.87 percent and 46.22 percent efficiency rate, respectively.
