Fourth seed De La Salle-Zobel stunned No. 3 Adamson University, 87-81, to advance to the second phase of the stepladder semifinals of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 juniors basketball tournament on Friday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Katipunan, Quezon City.
Aljun Melencio connected 21 points on top of eight rebounds; three assists and a steal while Joaquin Banzon provided the needed back up by scoring 20 points for the Junior Archers.
Noah Webb added nine points and hauled down 10 rebound, Brent Paraiso and Miguel Cabarrus combined for 17 markers.
Four members of the Baby Falcons finished in double-digits but still wasn’t good enough to lift the team. Frederick Tungcab had 20, James Pasturan got 17, Gerald Fernandez scored 12 and Dave Cabanilla chipped in 10.
Le Salle-Zobel will be facing defending champion and No. 2 seed National University, which holds a twice-to-beat advantage. The game is set on Monday at 1 p.m. at the same venue.
The winner of the Junior Archers-Bullpups match will advance to the finals against Ateneo de Manila University.
The Blue Eaglets secured an automatic berth to the finals after sweeping the elimination round. They are thrice-to-beat in the championship round for achieving such feat.
