La Trinidad crafts measure to regulate junk shops

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: While recognizing the role of junkshops in promoting proper waste disposal, the municipal government saw the need to regulate the establishment, operation and maintenance of junk shops. Councilor Roderick Angiwan said the proposed ordinance will help protect residents from theft and robbery. It was reported that some items sold in junk shops were stolen such as cable wires, steel bars, electric and water meters. The requirements junk shop owners should process are business permits, sanitary permit and health certificates, and structural requirements. The daily transactions of junk shop owners should also be recorded while ambulant junk buyers and pickers are required to register with the Business Licensing Office or get a permit from the Mayor’s Office.
