LA UNION’s capital city of San Fernando was named Most Promising e-Government in the efficiency category by WeGo, a global award-giving body which honors, recognizes and promotes outstanding practices of e-government of cities and local governments, public organizations and agencies around the world that use technologies to inform and communicate in order to improve administrative efficiency and citizens’ access to public service.
WeGo Awards president and Won Soon Park, mayor of South Korea’s capital city of Seoul, wrote Mayor Pablo Ortega about San Fernando City being chosen because of its effective implementation of the Document Tracking System (DTS) project.
The award will be presented on November 6 during the 3rd WeGo General Assembly which starts on November 3 in Chengdu, China.
Mayor Ortega is expected to attend the event to receive the prestigious award.
The DTS is aimed to create transparency and fast tracks the processing of documents needed by clients being served while keeping their eyes, step by step, department-to-department, through the computer, however, its speedy processing also depends on the speed of the internet system from its servers, it was learned.
This program won the attention of WeGo, prompting the organization to nominate the city, “in the light of this fierce competition” in the newly-created for each awards category.
A total of 68 projects were submitted and only the top five were chosen for the Best e-Government and the Outstanding e-Government prizes.
“It is a big step to our advancement program specially on our public services via the electronic way, we dedicated this one to our constituents and clients as well as our stakeholders,” said Ortega. WILLIAM JUN GARCIA
