The damage caused by Typhoon Labuyo to the country’s agriculture sector reached P438.27 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported on Tuesday.
In its initial damage report, the DA said that Typhoon Labuyo left P438.27 million worth of damages in agriculture in Codillera Administrative Region, Region 2 and 3 – affecting rice, corn, banana and vegetable crops.
The biggest damage was reported in corn and rice with P320.91 million and P93.93 million, respectively.
A total of 26,800 metric tons of corns were lost in some 35,615 hectares, while 4,617 MT of rice were damage in 12, 006 hectares.
Region 2 suffered the biggest loss at P52.78 million, followed by Region 2 at P39.43 million and CAR at P1.7 million.
The DA said that it is continuously monitoring the situation, adding that it has already put in place various mechanisms to help affected farmers. JAMES KONSTANTIN GALVEZ
