Defending champion De La Salle University guns for its ninth win when it faces Adamson University today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The La Salle-Adamson match is set at 4 p.m. after the tussle between University of the East (UE) and Far Eastern University (FEU) at 2 p.m.
The Lady Archers hold the solo top spot with an unblemished 8-0 card. They only need two more wins to automatically clinch the first Final Four berth. National University (NU) is in second (8-1) followed by Ateneo de Manila University (6-3), FEU (4-4), Adamson (4-4), University of Santo Tomas (3-6), University of the Philippines (1-8) and UE (0-8).
Co-Most Valuable Players Abigail Maraño and Ara Galang are expected to spearhead the attack line of the Lady Archers as well as Mika Reyes, Cydthealee Demecillo and rookie Desiree Cheng.
“It’s a new game, we all know that Adamson is peaking right now. We need to play our best,” said La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus.
Adamson scored an easy 25-15, 25-9, 25-19 win over UP on Sunday with open hitters Sheila Pineda and Amanda Villanueva providing the needed points for the Lady Falcons.
“I just told them to just give their 100 percent and be consistent at all times,” said Adamson mentor Sherwin Meneses.
Besides Pineda and Villanueva, middle hitters Mylene Paat and Faye Guevara must also step up as well as playmaker Jennifer Macatuno and utility spiker Mayette Zapanta.
