Defending champion De La Salle University goes for a sweep of the first round of elimination when it battles University of the East (UE) today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The La Salle-UE game is scheduled at 2 p.m. followed by the tussle between Adamson University and Far Eastern University at 4 p.m.
The Lady Archers hold the top spot with a clean 6-0 card. They beat Ateneo de Manila University, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16, before some 12,000 crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.
La Salle will be banking on Season 75 co-Most Valuable Player awardees Abigail Marano and Victonara Galang as well as middle spiker Mika Reyes and veteran playmaker Kim Fajardo.
“We’re not thinking of being the undefeated team. We’ll just go out and play,” said La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus.
For its part, UE is the only winless team (0-6) in the league.
The rookie-laden Lady Warriors must bring their A-games to at least put up a good fight against the Lady Archers.
Graduating Sarina Bulan is the only veteran player in UE’s starting lineup while newcomers Shayna Adorador, Jasmine Alcayde, Angelica Dacaymat and Chello Ramos are still coping up with the high-intensity games in collegiate level. EMIL C. NOGUERA
