College of St. Benilde seeks to set in motion its title-retention bid as it clashes with vastly-improved Perpetual Help even as a Grethcel Soltones-led San Sebastian launch its own campaign versus Arellano U at the start of the NCAA Season 92 volleyball competitions on November 14 at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Blazers won last year’s crown after coming out of nowhere to stun Soltones and the Lady Stags and should be the prohibitive favorites this year with reigning Finals MVP Jeanette Panaga and veteran Ranya Musa returning to give the Taft-based school another shot at glory.
St. Benilde, however, will have its hands full against a Perpetual Help side that has kept the core of its squad a season back and coming off a strong second place finish to eventual winner Santo Tomas in the University Games in Dumaguete City late last month.
The CSB-Perpetual Help duel is set at 2 p.m., which will be preceded by an opening ceremony highlighted by a St. Benilde’s dance group that has won a world hip-hop dance contest this year.
The power-hitting Soltones, the reigning back-to-back MVP, will also be out to win it all this season after two straight failted attempts as the Lady Stags jumpstart their campaign against the Lady Chiefs, the champions two years ago, at 4 p.m.
“Hopefully, we’ll win it this year,” said Soltones, who also won the MVP award in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13-Open Conference early this year, in Filipino.
The league will employ a single-round format in the elimination round with the top four teams advancing to the Final Four.
