Lady Bulldogs chase second win in UAAP volley

National University (NU) will be gunning for its second win when it collides with University of the East (UE) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan City.

The NU-UE match is scheduled at 2 p.m. followed by the tussle between Far Eastern University (FEU) and last year’s runner-up Ateneo de Manila University at 4 p.m.

NU is sharing the lead with FEU, University of Santo Tomas (UST) and defending champion De La Salle University with 1-0.

Led by the towering Santiago sisters, Dindin and Jaja, the Lady Bulldogs had a sterling start on Saturday as they trashed the Lady Eagles, 25-17, 25-22, 25-17.

The 6-foot-2 Dindin fired 18 points including three aces while the 6-foot-4 Jaja contributed eight markers for NU. Setter Ivy Perez had 25 excellent sets.

“The team has already matured compared last season. They’re communicating well inside the court and we’re hoping to come up with another good result this time,” said NU head coach Edjet Mabbayad.

Also expected to deliver for the Lady Bulldogs are power-hitter Myla Pablo, Aiko Urdas and Carmina Aganon.

The rookie-laden UE side, on other hand, is looking to bounce back from its 14-25, 15-25, 11-25 loss to FEU on Wednesday.

Skipper Sarina Bulan will lead the frontline of the Lady Warriors along with Shaya Adorador, Jasmine Alcayde and Abigail Ponon.

Seeing action in the men’s division are FEU and Ateneo at 8:30 a.m., and NU and UST at 10:30 a.m.
