NATIONAL University (NU) relied on Anna Christine Patrimonio to nip De La Salle University, 3-2, and grabbed the women’s tennis title of University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 on Saturday at the Olivarez College courts in Parañaque City.
Patrimonio won the deciding singles match as she trounced Rachelle de Guzman, 6-4, 6-2, in the best-of-five series.
NU won the opening doubles with Marie Gold Nagret and Anna Vienna Biernes winning against Lynette Palasan and Dasha Camille Bautista, 6-2, 6-0.
La Salle secured two singles matches courtesy of Regina Santigao and Marinel Rudas. Santiago whipped rookie Jzash Eale Canj, 3-6, 5-4 (ret.), while Rudas scored a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Hanna Grace Espinosa.
But NU tied the series to 2-2 with Kimberly Kaye Uytico and Junnalyn Polito defeating Anne Rene Castillo and Nikkirey Arandia in the second doubles match, 6-3, 6-4, before Patrimonio closed out NU’s campaign with a victory against de Guzman.
Patrimonio was named Most Valuable Player.
NU swept the tennis competitions of Season 76 after its men’s squad beat University of the Philippines on Tuesday in the finals.
