• Lady Bulldogs down Lady Archers, stay perfect


    REIGNING titlist National University (NU) held De La Salle University scoreless in the last seven minutes to carve out a 72-59 win and stretch its winning run to 36 games on Sunday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 79 women’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.

    Last year’s Most Valuable Player Afril Bernardino came through with 22 points and 13 rebounds while Gemma Miranda added 17 points, 10 boards and four assists as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-0.

    Nicole Mendina and Love Sto. Domingo combined for 27 points as University of the East (3-1) tripped Far Eastern University (1-2), 55-45, to seize solo hold of second spot.

    The Lady Archers, who closed in to 59-61 before collapsing, fell at 2-1 in third spot.

    In other women’s results on Saturday, Kaye Pingol shot 22 points while Jonalyn Lacson added 15 points and 20 boards as Adamson University (2-2) tripped Ateneo de Manila University (1-2), 74-62.

    Shanda Andres had 23 points as University of Santo Tomas (1-2) bested University of the Philippines (0-4), 80-73.

    Action resumes on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City with the Lady Tamaraws taking on the Lady Eagles at 8 a.m. and the Lady Archers facing Tigresses at 10 a.m.
