The National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs will gun for their 41st straight victory when they go against the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Lady Eagles in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s basketball tournament today at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Both teams are fresh from wins at the opening of the second round of eliminations on Wednesday.
The NU Lady Bulldogs gave the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors a 92-55 beating previously.
NU dominated under the basket, tallying 63 rebounds against UE’s 38. The Lady Bulldogs scored 36 shots out of 71 attempts while limiting the Lady Warriors to only 21 baskets out of 86.
The Lady Warriors banked on their fast break points with 17 compared to NU’s 11. However, the Lady Bulldogs capitalized on UE’s 24 turnovers, scoring 22 markers.
UE head coach Aileen Leborno utilized a nine-player roster vis-a-vis NU head coach Patrick Aquino’s 13 players on rotation.
Starter Afril Bernardinotop scored NU with 26 points, while Gemma Miranda and Jack Animam showcased double-double performances of 24 markers and 10 boards, and 15 points and 20 rebounds, respectively. Monique Del Carmen added 12 markers to NU’s scoreboard.
Love Sto. Domingo and Ruthlaine Tacula owned the bright spot for UE with 19 and 14 markers, respectively.
On the other hand, the Ateneo Lady Eagles snapped their three-game losing skid after trouncing the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, 54-39.
Despite being outrebounded by the Lady Tamaraws, the Lady Eagles managed to record 13 perimeter points and banked on their free throws with 17 points out of 26 attempts.
Jollina Go led Ateneo with 19 markers, while Angelica Gerner paced FEU with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
During their first meeting last September 11, the NU Lady Bulldogs annihilated the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 74-52.
Holding an undefeated card of 8-0, the Lady Bulldogs will clash with the Lady Eagles with a 3-5 slate at 8 a.m., while the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons with 1-7 card will battle the Adamson University Lady Falcons with 3-5 slate at 10 a.m.
