National University (NU) shoots for solo third as it takes on Far Eastern University (FEU) today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Bulldogs will collide with the Lady Tamaraws at 4 p.m. while University of Santo Tomas (UST) faces University of the Philippines (UP) at 2 p.m.
With defending champion Ateneo de Manila University (12-0) and De La Salle University (11-1) already securing the first two spots in the Final Four, the remaining slots in the next round will be a neck-and-neck battle between five teams —NU (5-6), Adamson University (5-6), UST (5-7), UP (4-7) and FEU (4-7).
The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a morale-boosting 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 win over already-eliminated University of the East with 6-foot-4 Jaja Santiago delivering 14 points on 10 attacks and four blocks and former Best Spiker Myla Pablo contributing 12 hits.
“We’re slowly getting the system of [our new]coach Roger [Gorayeb] especially on our floor and net defense. Hopefully, mailabas namin ang mga pinaghirapan namin sa training when we face FEU,” said Pablo.
The Lady Tamaraws, on the other hand, are raring to bounce back after absorbing back-to-back setbacks against UST (19-25, 21-25, 23-25) and Ateneo (23-25, 21-25, 23-25).
FEU will be banking on Bernadet Pons, Remy Palma, Geneveve Casugod, Toni Basas and setter Yna Papa.
