Led by Myla Pablo, National University (NU) entered the second round of the step-ladder semifinals of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines women’s volleyball tilt with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23 win over Far Eastern University (FEU) on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Pablo finished with 22 points— 21 on kills for the Lady Bulldogs while teammates Jorelle Singh contributed 20 points with four aces and Jaja Santiago posted 19 points.
The Lady Bulldogs, who finished the elimination round with an 8-6 win-loss record, will face the twice-to-beat No. 2 De La Salle University Lady Green Archers in the second round of step-ladder semifinals on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Bernadette Pons led FEU with 16 points.
In the men’s division, defending champion National University cruised into the finals after crushing University of Santo Tomas, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, behind the great performance of Peter Den Mar Torres, Reuben Inaudito and Edwin Tolentino.
Torres posted 13 points plus three blocks while Inaudito and Tolentino notched 12 points each for the Bulldogs. Jan Berlin Paglinawan added 11 points also for NU.
UST ace player Mark Gil Alfafara finished with 17 points.
The Bulldogs of head coach Dante Alunsunurin will be back in the finals in a championship rematch against the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
