• Lady Chiefs nip Mapua in NCAA volley


    The Arellano University Lady Chiefs banked on Menchie Tubiera’s 12 points and Cristine Rosario’s three blocks to crush the Mapua Lady Cardinals, 25-11, 25-9, 25-14, while the San Sebastian College Lady Stags beat Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22 in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City.

    With the victory, the Lady Chiefs grabbed the solo lead with six wins in seven matches while the Lady Stags, who won two straight games, forged a three-way tie from third to fifth spots with San Beda College and defending champion University of Perpetual Help System Dalta each with a 5-2 win-loss slate.

    In the men’s division, Howard Mojica notched 17 markers as Emilio Aguinaldo College defeated San Sebastian College, 25-16, 25-19, 25-20 joining reigning titlist UPHSD Altas that also bears a 7-0 card at the top of the standings.

    The Lady Chiefs lone defeat was at the hands of the Lady Red Spikers in the season opener.
