Lady Eagles clinch Final Four berth


ATENEO De Manila University outclassed University of the Philippines, 25-18, 25-18, 25-18, to earn the first Final Four slot on Saturday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.

Hard-hitting Alyssa Valdez delivered 20 points Bea De Leon had 10 points and Amy Ahomiro contributed nine points to help the Lady Eagles secured their 10th straight win.

Jia Morado, who had eight points, dictated the tempo for the Lady Eagles by executing 30 excellent sets.

After engaging to a scary fifth set win (25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-10) against a vastly-improved UP squad in the first round on January 4, Ateneo displayed toughness in all three sets to beat UP.

The Lady Maroons, who drew 13 points from Marian Alisa Buitre, dropped to a 4-6 card.

In the men’s division, Adamson University relied on Bryan Saraza’s 17 points to beat University of Santo Tomas, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-17, while Ateneo De Manila University turned back National University, 25-20, 25-16, 25-27, 25-16, with Marck Espejo nailing 26 points.

Ateneo and Adamson improved to 8-2 each while NU dropped to 7-3.
