Lady Eagles eye fifth straight win in UAAP volley

Last year’s runner-up Ateneo de Manila University guns for its fifth straight win when it battles University of Santo Tomas (UST) today in University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Eagles take on the Tigresses at 4 p.m. while National University (NU) is heavy-favorite against University of the Philippines (UP) at 2 p.m.

“We are taking it one game at a time,” said Ateneo assistant coach Parley Tupaz, who temporarily replaced Thai head coach Anusorn Bundit. The Thai mentor is currently in Bangkok to oversee the training of the Thailand national junior team.

Skipper Alyssa Valdez and utility spiker Amy Ahomiro will be leading the Lady Eagles along with rookies Ana Gopico and Julia Morado.

On the other hand, veteran spikers Carmela Tunay and Pamela Lastimosa are expected to banner the offense of the Tigresses. But they need backup from rookie Ria Meneses and setter Lauren Lantin.

Ateneo and NU are sharing the No. 2 spot with identical 4-1. They are behind unbeaten De La Salle University (5-0).

Seeing action in the men’s division are University of the East and NU at 8:30 a.m. and University of the Philippines and Far Eastern University at 10 a.m.
