• Lady Eagles eye solo lead in UAAP volley

Defending champion Ateneo de Manila University hopes to regain its winning form as it faces National University (NU) today in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Gunning for their seventh win and a solo lead, the Lady Eagles will collide with the Lady Bulldogs at 4 p.m. while Far Eastern University takes on University of the East (UE) sa at 2 p.m.

The Lady Eagles absorbed two straight losses as they succumbed to De La Salle University, 22-25, 14-25, 18-25, on February 27 and University of the Philippines (UP), 25-19, 22-25, 17-25, 22-25, on Sunday.

Ateneo, however, remained on top with De La Salle University with identical 6-2.

Two-time Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez fired 19 points and Jhoanna Maraguinot added 15 markers in their last game but it wasn’t good enough as middle hitters Bea De Leon and Maddie Madayag were limited to a combined 10-point output.

Ateneo will focus on reception this time after converting just 29 of their 73 attempts.

NU, on the other hand, posted a morale-boosting 25-18, 25-12, 25-18 win against Adamson University the last time out to snap its three-game losing skid.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-4 and strengthened their Final Four bid.

Open hitter Myla Pablo regained her composure with 14 points along with 6-foot-5 middle blocker Jaja Santiago, who delivered 13 points for NU.

Playmaker Ivy Perez was also in her usual element with 21 excellent sets.

“Yung panalo namin against Adamson, magandang morale boosting sa amin ‘yun. Kaya every game kailangan prepared kami both mentally and physically. Kailangan alisin namin ‘yung doubts sa sarili namin para makapaglaro kami ng solid,” said Santiago.

The Lady Bulldogs also want to avenge their 21-25, 19-25, 14-25 first-round loss against the Lady Eagles on January 31.

In the men’s division, NU faces UE at 8 a.m. while Ateneo battles UP at 10 a.m.

    1. I would like to congratulate Ateneo de Camote University for interfering politics about fabricating false history thru their faculty members about martial law… This institutions have done nothing to our country….Teach high, good quality education to your student..That is your job. Do not meddle in politics..

    2. Ateneo on top of DLSU? Ridiculous…the only way that can be true is with the manipulation of stats by the Commissioner. She is wrong.

By virtue of the long upheld winner-over-the-other rule, DLSU is on top.

I am an ALE fan, and these are the kind of things we DO NOT need. This is sports, not politics.
