• Lady Falcons drop UP to rule UAAP softball anew

Adamson University posted an impressive 10-0 victory over University of the Philippines (UP) in Game 2 to claim its fifth-straight title in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 softball tournament on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in Manila.

Overall, Adamson has 14 titles in the league.

“It’s the fruit of our continuous training and program. From the start, the passion was there, we’re really eager to win every game. This is the first time we got a five-peat,” said multi-titled Adamson head coach Ana Santiago.

Pitcher Annalie Benjamen grabbed her second straight Most Valuable Player award. She also won the Best Pitcher, Best Hitter and Most Run-Batted-In (RBIs) honors.

“Yung lahat ng pinaghirapan namin, nandoon lahat yung kinalabasan,” said the 22-year old Benjamen.

Queeny Sabobo of Adamson and Cristy Joy Roa of University of Santo Tomas (UST) shared the Most Homeruns award while Adamson’s Gelyn Lamata joined Benjamen for the Most RBIs, Lorna Adorable bagged the Most Stolen Bases plum and Florabelle Pabiana got the Rookie of the Year trophy.

UP placed second while UST finished third.

“UP is a strong team. Hanga ako sa kanila, marami silang rookie, pero hindi sila bumitaw. Mga fighter ang mga yan. Ang sabi ko sa mga bata, if we want to win, kung anong lakas meron ang kalaban, higitan natin. If we want to be the winner, we have to play like a winner,” said Santiago.
