Lady Falcons eye 4th crown in UAAP softball

Adamson University will be gunning for its fourth straight title when it tackles National University (NU) in Game 2 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 softball finals on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Falcons and the Lady Bulldogs collide at 9 a.m. with the former aiming to claim their 13th overall crown. Adamson ruled the 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 editions of the tournament.

“We don’t want to be complacent and we have to make adjustments especially in the early innings,” said Adamson head coach Ana Santiago, who steered the national team to its first-ever World Series Big League title in 2012.

The Lady Falcons, who hold a thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals after sweeping the elimination round, won in Game 1 via an 11-3 victory.

But NU head coach Saki Bacarisas remains optimistic of their chances.

“We’re almost there. It just so happened na nandoon ang breaks sa kanila,” stressed Bacarisas.

The Lady Bulldogs must win thrice to get the title.

Meanwhile, the semifinals of the volleyball competitions will begin on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.

Third seed Ateneo de Manila University takes on Adamson University in the first women’s stepladder semifinals at 4 p.m. while No. 2 Ateneo de Manila University battles No. 3 Far Eastern University in the Final Four of the men’s division at 2 p.m.
