PLDT Home Ultera toppled Philippine Coast Guard, 25-10, 25-11, 25-20, to start its bid on a high note on Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12-Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
Former San Beda College standout Janine Marciano scored 13 hits while Laurence Ann Latigay added 12 to lead the Ultrafast Lady Spikers in their first win.
Reigning Reinforced Conference Most Valuable Player (MVP) Aiza Maizo-Pontillas chipped in seven hits.
“We’re still a little bit out of rhythm because we haven’t really been complete as a team,” said PLDT Home Ultera coach Roger Gorayeb.
PLDT missed the services of Alyssa Valdez, who is still playing for Ateneo de Manila University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines beach volleyball competition.
National Collegiate Athletic Association MVP Grethcel Soltones also didn’t play to focus on her studies. But Gorayeb made an assurance that the two top open spikers will be playing soon.
”Of course, they will play,” said Gorayeb of Valdez and Soltones.
Suzanne Roces, Charo Soriano and Rysabelle Devanadera added a combined 17-point output for PLDT.
Rossan Fajardo led the Coast Guard with 10 points.
In the second game, Philippine Army nipped Kia Forte, 25-15, 25-18, 25-11, for its first win with Jovelyn Gonzaga leading the Lady Troopers with 12 hits and Nene Bautista adding 10.
