Lady Spikers tame Lady Tamaraws in UAAP volley


Former titlist De La Salle University recovered from a second-set lapse to turn back Far Eastern University (FEU), 25-17, 27-29, 25-14, 25-9, on Wednesday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Playmaker Kim Fajardo fired 10 points and had 18 excellent sets to power the Lady Spikers to their seventh win in eight games.

The Lady Tamaraws fell to 3-5.

In the first game, University of the Philippines (UP) easily disposed of University of the East (UE), 25-17, 25-13, 25-21, to strengthen its Final Four bid.

Skipper Nicole Tiamzon led the Lady Maroons with 12 points while Angeli Araneta added eight and Marian Buitre chipped in seven.

UP improved to 4-4 while UE absorbed its eighth straight loss.

The Lady Warriors got seven points each from veteran Leuseht Dawis and Judith Abil, and a combined 10 from Roselle Baliton and Grace Ramos.

In the men’s division, defending champion National University hurdled past UP, 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10, to remain on top with 7-1 mark. Rueben Inaudito had 24 points and Edwin Tolentino scored 20 for the Bulldogs.

The Fighting Maroons, who got 19 points from Wendel Miguel, dropped to 3-5.

Adamson University, on the other hand, posted an easy 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 win over La Salle with Michael Sudaria nailing 15, and Christopher David and Jerome Sarmiento adding 10 each.

Adamson now has 6-1 and La Salle fell to 1-7. EMIL C. NOGUERA
