Finishing the first round on a high note, Far Eastern University (FEU) posted a 6-0 domination of The Younghusband Football Academy (TYFA) in the Philippine Football Federation Women’s League (PFFWL) on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Joyce Ann Onrubia struck a hat-trick and three other Lady Tamaraws notched one goal apiece to snag their fifth win in nine games for a total of 17 points, good for the No. 2 spot.
“I’m satisfied (with our progress in the standings). At least our ranking improved. The players performed well in our last two wins,” said assistant coach Glaiza Artus.
Artus also noted that they have already addressed their problem in the frontline, which bogged them in their previous outings.
“We are not after the score in the game but in the quality of our finishing,” she said.
TYFA continued to struggle as it suffered its sixth setback and remained at No. 9 with nine points.
Onrubia sparked FEU’s goal feast with the opener in the 13th minute and quickly followed it up as she scored from close range a minute later.
Hariette Lam fired on the second touch off a free kick to give the Morayta-based lady booters a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Bia Lynn Requerne scored her goal off a rebound in the 56th and Onrubia completed her scoring spree in the 62nd, firing a shot from outside the box.
Kaye Princess Ysola punctuated the big win nine minutes before time as she pounced on a blunder by the TYFA goalkeeper.
In the day’s other match, Ateneo de Manila University found the back of the net twice to blank a hapless Fuego España FC, 2-0.
Pamela Denise Diaz and Maria Teresa Bernardo tallied the goals to power the Lady Blue Booters to their fourth win improving to 13 points though they stayed at No. 6.
Fuego España remained winless in nine games but managed to concede only two goals this time.
The preliminary round closes today as De La Salle University and Green Archers United FC figure in a battle of leading teams even as Ateneo springs back to action against OutKast FC.
