Far Eastern University (FEU) copped the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 women’s football title after outlasting University of the Philippines (UP) in one-game finals, 2-1, on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Alesa Donilo delivered the early goal for FEU in the 22nd minute mark and Alina Rose Araneta extended the lead to 2-0 after hitting a goal in 67th minute.
FEU’s tight defense and great ball distribution were the key factors in the remaining minutes as UP failed to capitalize in its attempt.
Marie Navea Huff scored UP’s lone goal via penalty kick in the injury time.
The Lady Tamaraws claimed their third consecutive title.
Meanwhile, De La Salle University team captain Ara Galang will be out for eight months after sustaining injury in the Lady Spikers’ 26-24, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21 win against National University on Saturday.
Galang suffered tears in her Anterior Cruciate Ligament, Medial Collateral Ligament and medial meniscus.
La Salle will be facing defending champion Ateneo de Manila University on Wednesday in Game 1 of the women’s volleyball finals at the Araneta Coliseum. The Lady Eagles hold a thrice-to-beat advantage.
