Laguna police bust carnapping syndicate

CAMP PACIANO RIZAL, Laguna: Following the arrest of a carnapping suspect in Laguna over the weekend the police discovered a warehouse where stolen vehicles were allegedly being cannibalized and sold illegally.

Calabarzon Reg Dir Chief Supt. Jesus Gatchalian said they found the warehouse on Daang Bakal in Tondo, Manila where parts of what they believed were stolen vehicles were being kept.

This was after a member of the gang, identified as Russel Aguilar, was arrested in Barangay Marinig in Cabuyao City, Laguna.

Gatchalian said Aguilar pretended to hire jeepney driver Jonel Alvarado in Cabuyao City but on the way held a knife against the driver and stole the vehicle.

Aguilar gave the police the names of the other members of the group and the location of the warehouse in Manila.

Also arrested were Virgilio del Rosario, Luis Manalo and Renato Bundalian. The police also picked up four more persons from the Manila warehouse for further questioning.

Aguilar said the group’s modus operandi was to steal vehicles in the provinces and sell their parts in Manila. The suspects were charged with carnapping and violation of the anti-fencing law.
