Lanao Norte wants named tourism area


Lawmakers have filed a measure declaring Lanao del Norte as a tourism development area to boost the province’s economy through tourism.

Lanao Del Norte Representatives Imelda Quibranza Dimaporo (1st District) and Abdullah Dimaporo (2nd District) authors of House Bill 6098, said tourism is seen as a mechanism for local communities to capitalize on assets such as the natural environment and cultural heritage.

Under the measure, the province shall be incorporated in the Department of Tourism (DOT) overall National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) pursuant to Republic Act 9593, otherwise known as the National Tourism Act of 2009

The proposed Provincial Tourism Council shall formulate programs and recommendations to develop local tourism facilities and attractions tapping local resources and funds, and assist in the regulation and supervision of tourism-oriented establishments ensuring wholesome and clean tourism activities.
