TWO villages in Bontoc, Mountain Province are in danger of being wiped out owing to continued landslides, according to the Mine and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) as it ordered immediate evacuation of affected families to a safer place.
MGB officials said the mountains in the two villages in Barangay Caneo in Bontoc have cracks and could lead to massive landslide or erosion that may bury some 56 families.
Fay Apil, MGB director for Cordillera, in collaboration with the provincial risk reduction and management office and Office of the Civil Defense had conducted an ocular inspection along the threatened villages after receiving reports of a possible collapse because of continued erosion.
”A horizontal crack of about 96 meters and which already slide down by about four meters was evident on a portion of the mountain above the threatened village,” Apil said.
Reports said that there is a “big possibility” that the crack will widen.
