BACOOR, Cavite: Mayor Strike Revilla announced on Monday morning before thousands of supporters during the city’s 2nd anniversary celebration that 2nd District Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla will run for mayor under the Lakas -CMD Party in the 2016 polls.
“Si Congresswoman Lani ang ating pambato sa pagka-mayor sa 2016 [Congresswoman Lani will be our bet for mayor in 2016],” Strike declared to applauding supporters, employees and political allies after the flag ceremony at Bacoor City Hall.
Lani, the wife of Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. who was jailed Friday at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, is serving her 2nd term while Strike is on his last term as Bacoor mayor. She was named an outstanding congresswoman thrice.
In spite of the agony and pain suffered by the Revilla family as a result of Bong’s arrest, Lani said she was instructed by her husband to continue serving her constituents in Bacoor.
“We are still coping up with what happened. We expected this and prayers give us more strength,” she said.
She said the plunder case against her husband was politically motivated—a sentiment shared by her eldest son Bryan and his family.
“Ang Bacooreno ay bahang-baha ng suporta kay Senator Bong. Habang nasusugatan, lalong lumalaban! [The people of Bacoor are giving their full support to Senator Bong. Current circumstances may have wounded him internally but he has not given up the fight!]” Strike Revilla said.
