• Laoag engineer nabbed for guns

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union: An engineer of the Laoag City government was arrested on Sunday after police operatives seized several firearms including two unlicensed armalite rifles from his house.

Chief Superintendent Roman Felix, Region 1 police director, identified the suspect as Albino Pedro.

Aside from the rifles, the police also found two caliber 40 pistols, a 9mm pistol, a caliber 45 hand gun and numerous ammunitions from Pedro’s house in Barangay 37, Calayab, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

“We are going to conduct ‘cross matching’ with the confiscated firearms to determine if they were used in shooting incidents in Ilocos Norte,” Felix said.

The raid was based on a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Renato Pinlac in San Carlos City in Pangasinan and was implemented by the Laoag City police headed by Supt. Joey Gorospe with intelligence personnel from the Ilocos Norte provincial police office and the Regional Intelligence Division.

Felix said the raid was a transitory implementation of Oplan Lambat Sibat.

He added that it was held a few days after PNP Director General Marcelo Garbo, the deputy director for operations, directed all provincial directors in the region to intensify operations against wanted persons, gun-for-hire personalities, criminal gangs and illegal drug personalities.

“We intend to activate the operation on Lambat Sibat after the National Capital Region police and other police regional offices have started implementing it to strengthen our campaign on peace and order,” Felix added.
