The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has lowered typhoon signals as “Lawin” weakened hours after slamming into Peñablanca town in Cagayan.


The weather bureau lifted signal warning numbers 4 and 5 in several areas in Northern Luzon.

As of 8 a.m. today, Lawin was located 40 kilometers northwest of Laoag City with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of 230 kph.
