ZAMBOANGA CITY: A policeman trying to arrest three members of a farming family had been stabbed dead on Monday by one of those he was serving a warrant in the town of Gutalac in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said that, Police Officer 1 (PO1) Arthur Utong was rushed to hospital, but died along the way. The assailant—Dorie Casipong—who stabbed Utong with a hunting knife was himself shot and wounded by the officer.

Utong was serving the warrant for the arrest of Utong and his parents Benigno and Virginia Casipong who are all facing theft charges in the town.
