BAGUIO CITY: Eight persons, including a lawyer and a barangay council member, were caught with guns along a checkpoint on the eve of elections. Cordillera police spokesperson, Supt. Cherry Fajardo, said the group was on board a van with plate number WQY 508 when flagged down along a Special Action Force checkpoint in Sinalang, Lipcan, Bangued, Abra’s capital town. When checked, the police team leader reportedly saw the passengers attempting to hide firearms. A caliber .45 pistol, a caliber 9mm submachine gun, a caliber 9mm Norinco pistol, two loaded magazines for the submachine gun, two loaded magazines for the 9mm pistol, and another empty magazine for a caliber .45 were seized from the group. One of the suspects, identified as lawyer Lucky Magala Damasen, claimed to be a counsel of Abra Gov. Takit Bersamin. Also arrested was village council member Luzviminda Lazo Ulibas of Luzong, Manabo, Abra.
