Lazada: e-commerce on the rise

DESPITE the influx of new players in e-commerce, online shopping portal Lazada is confident of keeping and growing its market share.

“I think it will grow significantly for us . . . We are going to do everything to keep the current market share,” Lazada founder and CEO Inanc Balci told reporters in an impromptu interview on Monday.

Balci said Lazada offers more items, lower prices, more suppliers, more merchants and better service.

The entry of new players helps to expand the e-commerce market, he said.
“Lazada holds quite a large share of the market. And as the market grows, our share will hopefully grow too,” Balci said.


The e-commerce market has considerably grown since Lazada came to the Philippines.
“The last year has been great for us. Since we came in three years ago, e-commerce has improved a lot,” he said.

Balci noted that e-commerce is now a $250-million industry in the Philippines alone.
Lazada which starts its Christmas Sale from December 10 to 12 is closing the year with 1.2 million products on its website.

Last year the company had 100,000 products for sale.
