International sensation Lea Salonga was proclaimed Entertainer of the Year at the Aliw Awards 2016 ceremonies on November 30, held at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.
Salonga was first given the accolade in 2004 at the height of her Miss Saigon popularity when the show was revived on Broadway.
She received the award for her numerous works in varied media this year.
The Broadway gem likewise won Best Major Concert (Foreign Venue). while Best Collaboration in a Concert was given to The Royals of Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Angeline Quinto and Erik Santos.
Salonga is popular on TV today as one of the coach-judges of ABS-CBN’s The Voice and The Voice Kids. Her numerous works on stage
President Rodrigo Duterte’s son Sebastian, better known as Baste, meanwhile, was named Best New Male Artist for his gigs in Davao and Cebu with videos posted on social media.
Other notable winners in the award-giving body’s recognition of achievement in the live entertainment industry—theater, opera, dance, live vocal and instrumental shows—were Jed Madela (Male) and Jessa Zaragoza (Female) for Best Performance in a Concert; Gerphil Flores for Best Crossover Performer and Best Major Concert; Aiza Seguerra for Best Performer in Hotels, Bars and Restaurants; Jose Manalo as Best Stand-Up Comedian; Gladys Reyes as Best Female Host; RJ Ledesma as Best Male Host; Leo Rialp as Best Stage Actor (Non-Musical); Pinky Amador; Best Stage Actress (Non-Musical); Nyoy Volante as Best Actor (Musical); and Joanna Ampil as Best Actress (Musical).
