About 200 people braved the rains to have a magical time with Lea Salonga, in an exclusive concert entitled, The Sound of Legacy at the Rigodon Ballroom of The Peninsula Manila, Makati City.
The event launched the first and latest collaboration between Salonga, a global Filipina artist and Philip Stein, a global brand known for fusing luxury and natural wellness technology in their world-class quality accessories.
Will Stein, CEO and co-founder of Philip Stein, welcomed the guests on behalf of his wife and co-founder, Rina Stein. He said, “We are launching tonight, the newest collection from Philip Stein, which perfectly matches the life and style of Lea, as we share similar values—that of passion, excellence, and purpose.”
Stein then shared how the collaboration between his company and the Philippine’s world-renowned singer came about. He recounted, “I met Lea Salonga last year in October. Rina and I had the honor and pleasure to spend a day with her and her husband. It was a beautiful sunny day in Zurich, which we spent half by the lake and half in our office. Talking about frequency, I think we all were tuned in to the same frequency. It was such a natural and easy bond between us. I think this is reflected in the collaborative work between us and Lea.”
With that, the co-founder introduced a short video about Lea’s legacy as the inspiration behind Philip Stein’s latest collection.
The audience was then mesmerized when Lea suddenly entered the ballroom with her opening number, “Something’s Coming” (from West Side Story). Accompanied by Maestro Gerard Salonga as musical director, her rousing renditions of “When You Believe” and “Go the Distance”. She also brought guests to their feet as she soared through “Defying Gravity.” She then concluded with her original song, “The Journey.”
After her performance, Salonga then expressed gratitude for the people who believe in her and share her journey in inspiring others. She also encouraged everyone to build their own legacies, starting now. “Today is the perfect time to begin,” she enthused.
With a standing ovation from the audience, Stein remarked of Lea, “Wow, wow, wow! I still have shivers. Lea, I can’t be prouder to have you as our ambassador. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing, amazing talent and your amazing legacy!”
Hosted by Bianca Valerio, the evening glamour event was attended by notable personalities like Johnny Litton, Issa Litton, Paolo and Suzi Abrera, Paco Sandejas and Christine Jacob-Sandejas, Rima Ostwani, Aziza Mondoñedo, Linda Ley, Rajo Laurel, Franco Laurel, Ernie Lopez, David Celdran, Edric Mendoza and Joy Tan-Chi Mendoza, and Rissa Mananquil-Trillo.
As a nod to Salonga’s birthdate (February 22), only 222 pieces were made for the Lea Salonga Legacy Limited Edition watch. The Legacy Collection, along with the limited edition pieces, will be distributed exclusively first in the Philippines through Philip Stein boutiques, Lucerne, Chronos, Wrist_pod and Swissgear.
