LED LIGHTS REDUCE 70% POWER CONSUMPTION

A measure requiring all government offices to replace their lighting with Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs has been filed in the House of Representatives in an aim to bring down the electricity bill of the government. Rep. Eric Olivarez of Parañaque City made the pitch under House Bill 262 of the LED Light Savings Act of 2013 which mandates all government offices to cease from using incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tube lights and Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) bulbs and replace their lighting fixtures with LED bulbs. LEDs used to be limited to single-bulb use in applications such as instrument panels, electronics, pen lights and strings of indoor and outdoor Christmas lights, but manufacturers have now expanded the application of LEDs by clustering or grouping together the small bulbs. The first clustered bulbs were used for battery powered items such as flashlights and headlamps.
