• Legarda enjoins Ifugaos to safeguard environment, rich culture


    LAGAWE, Ifugao: Senator Loren Legarda enjoined all Ifugaos to be environmental champions and heritage warriors.” Legarda, chair of the Senate Committee on Cultural Communities  was the guest speaker of the Grand Gotad Program of the 49th Founding Anniversary of the province held at the public plaza here on Thursday. The senator stressed that Ifugaos are blessed to be the custodians of the Hudhud Chants, one of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, and the Rice Terraces of the Cordilleras, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Hudhud Chants is performed in four occasions, two of which are on rice-farming activities —the harvesting and weeding, during funeral wakes, and in bone-washing rituals.
