Southwestern U, UST rule beach volleyball

CEBU City’s Southwestern University and University of Sto. Tomas ruled the beach volleyball competition of the 2014 Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee (PSC-POC) National Games held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex sand court on Saturday.

The pair of Therese Ramas and Flormer Rodriguez of Southwestern University needed only two sets to crush the tandem of Rica Rivera and Cherry Ann Rondino of University of Sto. Tomas, 21-10, 21-12 in the finals.

But UST’s Kris Roy Guzman and Mark Gil Alfafara avenged their female teammates by beating Tawi-Tawi’s Aga Tahiludin and Halim Khan in exciting three sets, 21-23, 26-24, 15-8, in the men’s finals.

In volleyball at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Philippine Air Force (PAF) dominated the men and women’s competition in contrasting fashion. The Airmen trounced National University Bulldogs, 25-19, 26-28, 25-20, 25-11 to secure their fourth straight men’s title in the PNG.

PAF’s women’s team, however, struggled hard in five sets before posting a close 25-22, 26-28, 20-25, 26-24, 15-7, victory over De La Salle University in the finals.
