Is it a yes or still a maybe?
President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Wednesday said Camarines Sur 3rd District Rep. Leni Robredo has not yet decided on his offer to be the administration party’s vice presidential bet in next year’s elections.
Speaking to reporters after the Liberal Party (LP) convention in Quezon City, the President explained that Robredo still needed time to make that decision.
“Leni is undergoing some processes. Let’s just wait for Leni to speak next week,” Aquino said.
The President recently held a meeting with Robredo to convince her to run alongside Roxas in the 2016 elections. Nothing was made final in the meeting because of lingering apprehensions of Robredo to seek higher public office.
Senate President Franklin Drilon, vice chairman of the LP, said the party is most likely to pick Robredo as their candidate for Vice President but her nomination will still have to undergo the proper process.
“Let’s just say that Congresswoman Leni is our candidate for Vice President,” Drilon insisted in a television interview also on Wednesday.
Robredo is the widow of former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, who was killed in a plane crash in 2012.
Aquino had said Robredo would be a good addition to the administration ticket since she is not a traditional politician.
He added that the administration has prepared an alternative plan in case Robredo turns down the offer.
The President, however, refused to provide details on the LP’s supposed plan B and left the matter to the administration standard-bearer.
“[Of course], but I think the candidate will be in the best position to answer that,” Aquino said.
