THE camp of former senator Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday urged Vice President Maria Leonor
“Leni” Robredo to put an end to all publicity stunts and allow the recount evidence to speak for itself.
Lawyer Vic Rodriguez, spokesman of Marcos, said if Robredo believed that she has the mandate of the people, she should allow the recount to begin.
Rodriguez issued the statement in response to the claims of Robredo’s lawyer Romy Macalintal that Marcos is a liar because the names included in their witness list were not registered voters.
In a manifestation to the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, Robredo’s lawyer claimed that the names of proposed witnesses submitted by Marcos were not registered in their precincts in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Basilan.
But according to Rodriguez, those in their witness list were members of the board of election inspectors (BEI) who were on duty on election day.
“Since the BEI members were physically present when the alleged “voting” took place, they would be able to testify on whether the contested ballots had been pre-shaded or if an honest-to-goodness election actually took place in Basilan, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao,” he pointed out.
He added that it is for that reason why the Marcos camp asked for a technical examination of the election data in Basilan, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.
Rodriguez said all they need to do is compare the signatures of the registered voters with the “signatures” of the actual voters to determine if something “fishy” happened during the May 2016 elections.
“Now we know why BBM got zero votes in the Iglesia Ni Cristo [INC] bailiwicks,” he added.
Rodriguez expressed belief that the manifestation made by Robredo’s camp was just part of the effort to delay the process.
“If Robredo believes she truly has the people’s mandate, then she should let the recount begin. Let’s put an end to all these publicity stunts. Enough is enough,” he said.
Rodriguez added that the public would be able to determine who is the real liar based on the evidence that would be presented by their camp.
